Onion Bhaji

By Vegan Calling April 29, 2016

These can be made to suit your individual requirements, you can use very thin pieces of onion or slice the onion thicker for a more chunky bhajis. Just add the strength of curry powder desired.

Ingredients

  • Onion - 2, Medium
  • Water - 400 mls (3 Cups)
  • Egg Replacement - 2
  • Plain Flour - 2 ozs (¼ Cup)
  • Ground Coriander - ½ Tsp
  • Turmeric - ½ Tsp
  • Black Pepper - ½ Tsp
  • Mixed Herbs - ½ Tsp
  • Mild Curry Powder - ½ Tsp
  • Olive Oil - 2 Tbsp
  • Oil - For Frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice onions to required thickness, place in a bowl.
  2. Add flour and all the spices, black pepper and herbs, mix well together.
  3. Make up the egg replacer according to packet instructions and add along with the olive oil to the onion mixture and stir well, leave to stand for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat enough oil in a deep pan to cover the bhajis.
  5. Add a large spoonful of the mixture to the pan, fry until golden brown, turning occasionally. TIP: Only cook a few at a time as too many start to stick together.

About Us Vegan Calling

Vegan Calling started as a number of scribbled down notes, recipe cards and our adaptations of favourite meals!

We originally wanted to create a place for all these recipes to go so we originally thought of a cookbook. However, an online database allows us to not only avoid various stains and spills, we’re also now able to share our recipes with the rest of the web.

Non-Vegan friends that come around for meals are always surprised at how delicious our various starters, main meals, desserts and everything in between taste so good! They’re always asking how we make them so wonderful without using animal products – this site lets them and everyone else know how we do it!
